The next man said, “My name is Dalim Khan. I was a criminal lawyer.”

I was shocked to hear this and asked, “Why are you a criminal lawyer but you keep a watchful eye on the militant base with your rifle?

Badr Ali said, “The most liberal of all the ideologies of the Muslim nation is the Tabligh established by Maulana Ilyas.”

I said, “You are saying that Tabligh is founded by Maulana Ilyas, while the rabbis of Tabligh say that Tabligh was done by the Prophets, so we do too.”

Badr Ali said, “Yes, the Prophets also used to Tabligh . But Maulana Ilyas introduced the practice of cooking and eating in the mosque with kantha-pillow. So I call the Tabligh established by Maulana Ilyas. No more. Rich-poor, educated-uneducated or higher – lower are all living together and eating together. Langarkhana like Kakrail Mosque is in the court of which Pir or in which shrine? Apart from Hajj, where is the big gathering like Ijtima of Tongi?”

I said, “But Tabligh is also being opposed.”

Badr Ali said, “I know that too. Maulana Maududi is one of the opponents.”

I said, “Why did Maulana Maududi oppose Tabligh?”

Badr Ali said, “The time is 1941. At the age of 38, Maulana Maududi founded the political party Jamaat-e-Islami according to his own ideology. He started propaganda against Tabligh, saying that people should convert to Jamaat-e-Islami without Tabligh. And due to going to Tabligh, the number of devotees in the court of many Pirs decreased. That is why many Pirs including Maulana Ahmad Reza Khan opposed Tabligh.”

I said, “Yet many of the Tablighers oppose the Pirism (Pir).”

Badr Ali said, “Not everyone does it. Those who have less knowledge oppose Pirism. But one of the great rabbis of Tabligh, Maulana Zakaria himself was a Pir. He gave caliphate to more than one hundred people. We use Tabligh in our jihadi work mainly because of the opportunity of participation of all classes of people, easy means of living, the opportunity to stay away from our own area indefinitely etc.”

I smiled and said, “Then your actions will not be Tabligh, but it will be convenient.”

পরের লোকটা বলল, ” আমার নাম ডালিম খান। আমি ছিলাম ফৌজদারি উকিল। “

এই কথা শোনে আমি চমকে উঠে জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, ” আপনি ফৌজদারি উকিল অথচ জঙ্গি ঘাঁটিতে রাইফেল নিয়ে নজরদারি করেন কেন ? আইনের ধারক, বাহক ও পরোক্ষভাবে রক্ষক হয়েও আপনি জঙ্গিবাদে কীভাবে জড়ালেন ? “

ডালিম খান বলল, ” আইনের ধারক হওয়ার জন্য আমি ফৌজদারি উকিল হইনি। “

এই কথা শোনার পর আমি জিজ্ঞেস করলাম, ” তাহলে কেন ফৌজদারি উকিল হলেন ? “

ডালিম খান নিজের মাথা কিছুটা নিচু করে বলল, ” রাতারাতি বড় লোক হওয়ার জন্য ফৌজদারি উকিল হয়েছিলাম। কিন্তু সৎ পথে সেটা হতো না পেরে অসৎ পথে হওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিলাম। তাই বিভিন্ন ক্রিমিনালের সঙ্গে আঁতাত করে একটা গ্যাঙ তৈরি করি। কিন্তু আরেক সৎ উকিলের প্রতিরোধের কারণে ক্রিমিনালদের সঙ্গ ত্যাগ করতে বাধ্য হই। তখন বড় হুজুরের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ হলে আমাকে তিনি এই ঘাঁটিতে নিয়ে এলেন। “

আরেক জন বলল, ” আমার নাম একবাল পাঠান। আমি ছিলাম ডিপ্লোমা ইঞ্জিনিয়ার। একবার আমার মনে ধারণা জাগল, একদিন চিরন্তন সত্য অনুসারে আমাকেও মরতে হবে। এত টাকা কামিয়ে কী হবে ? তাই ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং ছেড়ে চলে গেলাম কাকরাইল মসজিদে। তিন বেলা খাই আর মুরুব্বিদের বয়ান শুনি। মূলত আমি তখন ছিলাম মৃত্যুর অপেক্ষায়। কখন আমার মৃত্যু হবে ? আর আমি পরলোকে গমন করব। তখন বড় হুজুরের সঙ্গে দেখা হল। বড় হুজুর আমাকে বুঝালেন, ‘মরতেই যদি চাও, তবে শহিদ হয়ে মরো। সকল মৃত্যুর মধ্যে সেরা মৃত্যু হল শহিদি মৃত্যু।’ বড় হুজুরের এই বয়ানে উজ্জীবিত হয়ে আমি এই ঘাঁটিতে চলে এলাম। ”

আমাকে বদর আলি বলল, ” তুমিই তো দেখলে আমাদের এই স্থানে যার যার জীবনে প্রতিষ্ঠিত ব্যক্তিরা আছে। তাই তুমি মনে করবা না যে, তুমি বিপথগামী হয়ে যাচ্ছো। “

আমি বললাম, ” আপনারা ভালো – মন্দ অথবা ন্যায় – অন্যায় যা কিছুই করেন, সেটা আপনাদের ব্যাপার। এর ফলও আপনারা ভোগ করবেন। কিন্তু আমি চলে যাচ্ছি। “

এই কথা শোনে বদর আলি বলল, ” তুমি এই স্থান থেকে যেতে পারবা না। তোমাকে সেই সুযোগ দেয়া হবে না। “

আমি চিন্তা করলাম, এখন যদি ওদের সঙ্গে তর্ক করি তাহলে ওরা হয়তো আমার প্রতি আরো কঠোর হবে। ফলে কোন সুযোগ কাজে লাগাতে পারব না। তাই প্রসঙ্গ বদল করে বললাম, ” আপনারা আপনাদের জঙ্গি কাজের জন্য তাবলিগকে ইউজ করছেন কেন ? “

বদর আলি বলল, ” মুসলিম জাতির মধ্যে যত মতাদর্শ রয়েছে, সেগুলোর মধ্যে সবচেয়ে উদার হচ্ছে মওলানা ইলিয়াসের প্রতিষ্ঠিত তাবলিগ। “

আমি বললাম, ” আপনি বলছেন তাবলিগ হচ্ছে মওলানা ইলিয়াসের প্রতিষ্ঠিত, অথচ তাবলিগের মুরুব্বিরা বলেন যে, তাবলিগ নবীগণ করতেন, তাই আমরাও করি। “

বদর আলি বলল, ” হ্যাঁ, তাবলিগ নবীগণও করতেন। কিন্তু মসজিদে মসজিদে কাঁথা – বালিশ নিয়ে অবস্থান করে রান্না – বান্না করে খেয়ে তাবলিগ করার প্রচলন মওলানা ইলিয়াসই করেছেন। তাই আমি তাবলিগকে মওলানা ইলিয়াসের প্রতিষ্ঠিত বলছি। মওলানা ইলিয়াসের প্রতিষ্ঠিত তাবলিগের মতো এত উদার মতাদর্শ মুসলিম জাতিতে আর নাই। ধনী – গরিব, শিক্ষিত – অশিক্ষিত অথবা জাত – কুজাত সকলেই একসঙ্গে থাকছে – খাচ্ছে। কাকরাইল মসজিদের মতো লঙ্গরখানা বাংলাদেশের কোন পীরের দরবারে অথবা কোন মাজারে আছে ? হজ্জ ছাড়া টঙ্গীর ইজতিমার মতো বড় মহা সমাবেশ আর কোথায় হয় ? “

আমি বললাম, ” কিন্তু তাবলিগেরও তো বিরোধিতা হচ্ছে। “

বদর আলি বলল, ” সেটা আমিও জানি। বিরোধীদের মধ্যে মওলানা মওদুদি অন্যতম। “

আমি বললাম, ” মওলানা মওদুদি কেন তাবলিগের বিরোধিতা করতেন ? “

বদর আলি বলল, ” সময়টা ১৯৪১ সাল। ৩৮ বছর বয়সে মওলানা মওদুদি প্রতিষ্ঠা করলেন নিজের মতাদর্শ অনুযায়ী রাজনৈতিক দল জামায়াতে ইসলামি। কিন্তু রাজনৈতিক কাজ করতে গিয়ে দেখলেন, সহজ – সরল ও অশিক্ষিত মুসলমানরা জামায়াতে ইসলামি না করে তাবলিগ করে। তাই তিনি নিজের দলে লোক বৃদ্ধি করতে তাবলিগের বিরুদ্ধে অপপ্রচার শুরু করলেন, যেন তাবলিগ না করে মানুষ জামায়াতে ইসলামি করে। কিন্তু তাবলিগের সহজ – সরল কাজ ও ব্যাখ্যায় প্রভাবিত মুসলমানরা মওলানা মওদুদির জটিল আর গুঁজামিলের ব্যাখ্যা গ্রহণ না করে তাবলিগই করছেন। তবে মওলানা মওদুদির বিরোধিতার উত্তর মওলানা মনযুর নুমানিসহ অনেকেই দিয়েছেন। তেমনি তাবলিগে যাওয়ার কারণে অনেক পীরের দরবারে ভক্তের সংখ্যা কমে গিয়েছিল। এবং এই কারণেই মওলানা আহমদ রেজা খানসহ অনেক পীর তাবলিগের বিরোধিতা করেন। “

আমি বললাম, ” অথচ তাবলিগের অনেকেই পীরতন্ত্রের বিরোধিতা করেন। “

বদর আলি বলল, ” সকলেই করেনা। যাদের এলেম কম, ওরাই বিরোধিতা করে পীরতন্ত্রের। অথচ তাবলিগের অন্যতম বড় মুরুব্বি মওলানা জাকারিয়া নিজেই পীর ছিলেন। তিনি এক শোর বেশি লোককে খেলাফত প্রদান করেছিলেন। আমরা তাবলিগকে নিজেদের জিহাদি কাজে ইউজ করি মূলত সকল শ্রেণীর মানুষের অংশগ্রহণের সুযোগ, থাকা – খাওয়ার সহজ ব্যবস্থা, অনির্দিষ্টকালের জন্য নিজের এলাকা থেকে অন্যত্র থাকার সুযোগ প্রভৃতির কারণেই। “

আমি তখন হাসতে হাসতে বললাম, ” তাহলে তো আপনাদের কর্মকাণ্ড তাবলিগ রইল না, বরং সেটা হয়ে গেল সুবিধালিগ। “
