The trawler came to a halt on a shelf in the middle of the river, crossing the waves of the river Jamuna. The shelf is completely deserted, there are no houses anywhere.



We got off the trawler and met a man. The man walked with us for about five miles and came to a place.



At that place I saw a one storey building and a few tin sheds. The man told us to wait and went inside the house.



Seeing these, I said to Lalu, “Looking at these, it doesn’t look like a training camp.”



Lalu said, “I am also confused.”



Tikka said, “We made an agreement with the big hujur in Tongi of Gazipur to bring people to him. But we never came to this place.”



I said to Tikka, “Since when did you make this deal?”



Tikka said, “This is a few days ago. My house is in Daudkandi of Comilla and Lalu’s house is in Mathbaria of Pirojpur. The one who is interested in the subject should be brought to this place by showing the temptation of that subject. The one who wants to religious travel is tempted by the that. It is said that Bangladesh has the most preaching work in the world, Mymensingh has the most in Bangladesh and Nandail has the most in Mymensingh. Finally we went to Nandail with your father. We have shown you to be an obedient child. Basically, preaching is just an excuse to mobilize people. “



When the man came out of the house with another man, the man of the house said, “Who among you has come to be martyred?”



Upon hearing this, I said, “I did not come to be a martyr. I came to take military training.”



Lalu said, “We have no desire to be martyred or ghazi. The two of us have made an agreement with the big hujur. If each person can bring it, we will be paid twenty thousand taka. According to the agreement, we have brought one, give us twenty thousand taka, we will leave.”



The man said, “I am Badr Ali. The second in command of the big hujur. The big hujur has not come from Dhaka yet. When he comes, the final decision will be taken about you. Until then you will be our prisoner.”



After saying this, six more people came and surrounded us. One with a pistol and the other with an SKS rifle.

যমুনা নদীর উত্তাল ঢেউ পেরিয়ে একেবারে মাঝ নদীর একটা চরে এসে ট্রলার থামল। চরটা একেবারে নির্জন, কোথাও কোন বাড়ি – ঘর নাই।



ট্রলার থেকে নেমে আমাদের দেখা হল এক লোকের সঙ্গে। সেই লোক আমাদেরকে সঙ্গে নিয়ে প্রায় পাঁচ মাইল হেঁটে একটা স্থানে এল।



সেই স্থানে দেখলাম একটা একতলা বিল্ডিং ঘর আর কয়েকটা টিন শেড ঘর। আমাদেরকে লোকটা অপেক্ষা করতে বলে বাড়ির ভিতরে চলে গেল।



এগুলো দেখে লালুকে আমি বললাম, ” এগুলো দেখে তো প্রশিক্ষণ ক্যাম্প মনে হচ্ছে না। “



লালু বলল, ” আমিও তো কনফিউজড হয়ে গেলাম। “



টিক্কা বলল, ” আমারা তো গাজীপুরের টঙ্গীতে বড় হুজুরের সঙ্গে চুক্তি করেছিলাম তিনির কাছে লোক নিয়ে আসবো। কিন্তু আমরা তো কখনো এই স্থানে আসিনি। “



টিক্কাকে আমি বললাম, ” কবে থেকে এই চুক্তি করেছেন ? “



টিক্কা বলল, ” এই তো কিছুদিন আগে। আমার বাড়ি কুমিল্লার দাউদকান্দিতে আর লালুর বাড়ি পিরোজপুরের মঠবাড়ীয়াতে। টঙ্গীর বিশ্ব ইজতিমাতে বড় হুজুরের সঙ্গে দেখা হওয়ার পর তিনি বললেন, উনার একটা বড় মিশন আছে, সেই মিশনের জন্য কিছু ত্যাগী লোকের দরকার। তাই যে যা চায় এবং যে বিষয়ের প্রতি আগ্রহী, তাকে সেই বিষয়ের প্রলোভন দেখিয়ে এই স্থানে নিয়ে আসতে হবে। যে চিল্লা দিতে চায়, তাকে চিল্লার প্রলোভন। যে ডিসি – এসপি হতে চায়, তাকে বিসিএসের প্রলোভন প্রভৃতি বলে আমাদেরকে এই স্থানের ঠিকানা দেয়। তাই আমরা ইজতিমাতে নান্দাইলের কাফেলাকে টার্গেট করি। কথিত আছে, সারা বিশ্বের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশে সবচেয়ে বেশি তাবলিগের কাজ হয়, সারা বাংলাদেশের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বেশি হয় ময়মনসিংহে আর সারা ময়মনসিংহের মধ্যে বেশি হয় নান্দাইলে। অবশেষে তোমার বাবার সঙ্গে নান্দাইলে গেলাম। জেমস বন্ডের বই দেখে তোমাকে জেমস বন্ড হওয়ার প্রলোভন দেখালাম আর তোমার বাবাকে প্রলোভন দেখালাম তোমাকে বাধ্য সন্তান হিসেবে ফিরিয়ে দেয়ার। মূলত তাবলিগ হচ্ছে আমাদের লোক জোগাড়ের একটা বাহানা মাত্র।”



লোকটা আরেক লোককে সঙ্গে নিয়ে বাড়ির বাইরে এলে বাড়ির লোকটা বলল, ” তোমাদের থেকে কে কে শহিদ হতে এসেছ ? ”



এই কথা শোনে আমি বললাম, ” আমি আসিনি শহিদ হতে। আমি এসেছি মিলিটারি ট্রেনিং নিতে। ”



লালু বলল, ” শহিদ অথবা গাজি হওয়ার কোন ইচ্ছা আমাদের নাই। বড় হুজুরের সঙ্গে আমাদের দুজনের চুক্তি হয়েছে, প্রতিটা লোক এনে দিতে পারলে আমাদেরকে বিশ হাজার টাকা দেওয়া হবে। চুক্তিমত আমরা একজন এনেছি, আমাদেরকে বিশ হাজার টাকা দেন, আমরা চলে যাই। ”



লোকটা বলল, ” আমি বদর আলি। বড় হুজুরের সেকেন্ড ইন কমান্ড। বড় হুজুর এখনো ঢাকা থেকে আসেননি। তিনি এলে তোমাদের ব্যাপারে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হবে। ততক্ষণ তোমরা আমাদের বন্দি হয়ে থাকবে। ”



এই কথা বলার পর আরো ছয় জন এসে আমাদের ঘিরে দাঁড়াল। একজনের হাতে পিস্তল আর অন্যদের হাতে এসকেএস রাইফেল।
