1971. After taking classes at Anandamohan College, I saw some students whispering near the gate, one of them being my classmate.

I went to them and said,”Hi, what are you doing by whispering?”

The classmate was shocked to hear me say, “Bangabandhu was captured by the Pak army to West Pakistan.”

The boy from the English department said, “An army officer named Major Zia has declared war at Kalurghat in Chittagong. There will be war in the country now.”

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of Gopalganj is now one of the most important figures in Pakistani politics. He is now the biggest leader in East Pakistan, almost surpassing Maulana Bhasani. Tofail Ahmed gave him the title “Bangabandhu” in 1969 and in 1971 he was given the title “Father of the Nation”. Therefore, the political situation in East Pakistan has become unstable due to the capture of him by the Pak army to West Pakistan.

“The VP of Dhaka University, ASM Abdur Rob, has hoisted the flag of Bangladesh,” said the boy from the economics department.

The boy of history department said, “Now the flag has been hoisted, but when the war starts, he will flee from Dhaka to Noakhali.”

The boy from the philosophy department said, “Kader Siddiqui of Tangail will also fight against the Pak army.”

Hearing this, the others laughed heartily. The boy in the history department said with a smile, “There is a saying, ‘The ant’s fan grows and dies.’ That is why Kader Siddiqui has passed away. Major Zia has declared war as an army officer. But with what courage does Kader Siddiqui want to fight? “

Then a boy said, “My house is in Tangail. Kader Siddiqui’s house is close to my house. Basically, Kader Siddiqui has a local group. That group is known as Kaderia Bahini. Kader Siddiqui is preparing to fight leading that group.”

The boy of history said, “I have heard the name of the spiritual community called Kaderia tarika for so long. Now I am hearing the name of Kaderia Bahini. How many more will I hear the various names ?”

The political science boy said, “Kader Siddiqui is preparing for war now, but will he be able to fight in the end? Once the Pak army can capture Kader Siddiqui, he will get rid of his hobby of war.”

I said, “I heard you. What are you trying to do now?”

My classmate swallowed and said, “It’s a top secret. Don’t tell anyone. We’ll fight too.”

I said, “You will fight against the Pak army. Are you an army member?”

The political science boy said, “If Kader Siddiqui can prepare to fight without being an army member, then we can also fight as college students.”

Then I said, “Then I’ll fight too.”

Then the history student said to me, “You can’t move with fatty health, how can you fight?”

I said, “Hey stupid, there are a lot of fat people in the Pak army as well as in the Bangladesh army. There is no fat-thin factor when you shoot.”

The political science student said, “Yes, you are right.”

I said, “Who do you want to go to war with?”

My classmate said, “We don’t know the identity of the person through whom we want to go to war.”

I said, “That’s not right. Maybe he’s a Pakistani spy.”

The political science boy said, “Really. It could be that he’s an agent of the RAW.”

I said, “There’s no problem with being RAW’s agent. He’ll take us to the real freedom fighters. What’s the man’s identity?”

My classmate then said, “I don’t know the man’s identity. But the man’s name is Jamal Bhai.”

I said, “Who is Jamal again?”

“প্রতিকূলতা থাকা সত্ত্বেও মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করলাম।”

১৯৭১ সাল। আনন্দমোহন কলেজে ক্লাস করার শেষে দেখলাম গেটের পাশে কয়েকজন ছাত্র প্রায় ফিস ফিস করে কথা বলছে, ওদের মধ্যে আমার এক ক্লাসমেটও আছে।

আমি ওদের কাছে গিয়ে বললাম, “কীরে, ফিস ফিস করে কী ফন্দি করছিস?”

আমার কথা শুনে থতমত করে ক্লাসমেট বলল,”বঙ্গবন্ধুকে পাক বাহিনী পাকিস্তানে ধরে নিয়ে গেছে।”

ইংরেজি বিভাগের ছেলেটা বলল,”চট্টগ্রামের কালুরঘাটে মেজর জিয়া নামের এক সেনা অফিসার যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে। দেশে এখন যুদ্ধ হবে।”

গোপালগঞ্জের শেখ মুজিবুর রহমান এখন পাকিস্তানের রাজনীতিতে অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যক্তি। পূর্ব পাকিস্তানে মাওলানা ভাসানীকে প্রায় টপকে তিনিই এখন বড় নেতা। ১৯৬৯ সালে তিনিকে তোফায়েল আহাম্মদ “বঙ্গবন্ধু” উপাধি দিয়েছেন এবং এই ১৯৭১ সালে তিনিকে দেয়া হয়েছে “জাতির পিতা” উপাধি। তাই তিনিকে পাক বাহিনী পাকিস্তানে ধরে নিয়ে যাওয়াতে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের রাজনৈতিক অবস্থা অস্থিতিশীল হয়েছে।

অর্থনীতি বিভাগের ছেলেটা বলল,”ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভিপি আ স ম আব্দুর রব বাংলাদেশের পতাকা উত্তোলন করেছে।”

ইতিহাস বিভাগের ছেলেটা বলল,”এখন ত পতাকা উত্তোলন করেছে, কিন্তু যুদ্ধ শুরু হলে ঢাকা থেকে নোয়াখালী পালাবে।”

আমি বললাম,”যুদ্ধ শুরু হলে দেখা হবে, কে কী করে?”

দর্শন বিভাগের ছেলেটা বলল,”টাঙ্গাইলের কাদের সিদ্দিকীও নাকি পাক বাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধে করবে।”

এই কথা শুনে অন্যরা হেঃ হেঃ হেঃ করে হেসে উঠল। ইতিহাস বিভাগের ছেলেটা হাসতে হাসতে বলল,”কথায় আছে, ‘পিপীলিকার পাখা গজায় মরিবার তরে।’ কাদের সিদ্দিকীর দশা হয়েছে তাই। মেজর জিয়া ত সেনা অফিসার হয়ে যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে। কিন্তু কাদের সিদ্দিকী কোন সাহসে যুদ্ধ করতে চায়?”

তখন একটা ছেলে বলল,”আমার বাড়ি টাঙ্গাইলে। কাদের সিদ্দিকীর বাড়ি আর আমার বাড়ি কাছাকাছিই। মূলতঃ কাদের সিদ্দিকীর একটা স্থানীয় গ্রুপ আছে। সেই গ্রুপটা কাদেরিয়া বাহিনী নামে পরিচিত। সেই গ্রুপের নেতৃত্বে কাদের সিদ্দিকী যুদ্ধ করার প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে।”

ইতিহাসের ছেলেটা বলল,”এতদিন শুনেছি কাদেরিয়া ত্বরিকা নামের আধ্যাত্মিক সম্প্রদায়ের নাম। এখন শুনছি কাদেরিয়া বাহিনীর নাম। আর কত শুনব নামের বাহার?”

রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞানের ছেলেটা বলল,”কাদের সিদ্দিকী এখন ত যুদ্ধের বেশ প্রস্তুতি নিচ্ছে, কিন্তু শেষ পর্যন্ত কি যুদ্ধ করতে পারবে? যদি একবার কাদের সিদ্দিকীকে পাক বাহিনী ধরতে পারে, তবে ওর যুদ্ধের শখ মিটিয়ে দেবে।”

আমি বললাম,”তোদের কথা ত শুনলাম। এখন তোরা কী করতে চাচ্ছিস?”

আমার ক্লাসমেট ঢোক গিলে বলল,”বিষয়টা টপ সিক্রেট। কারোর কাছে বলবানা। আমরাও যুদ্ধ করব।”

আমি বললাম,”পাক বাহিনীর বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করবি, তোরা কী সেনা সদস্য?”

রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞানের ছেলেটা বলল,”কাদের সিদ্দিকী যদি সেনা সদস্য না হয়ে যুদ্ধ করার প্রস্তুতি নিতে পারে, তবে আমরাও কলেজের ছাত্র হয়ে যুদ্ধ করতে পারবো।”

তখন আমি বললাম,”তাহলে আমিও যুদ্ধ করব।”

তখন আমাকে ইতিহাসের ছাত্রটা বলল,”তুমি ত মোটা স্বাস্থ্য নিয়েই নড়তেই পারনা, তুমি কীভাবে যুদ্ধ করবা?”

আমি বললাম,”এ ব্যাটা, আমার চেয়ে অনেক মোটা মোটা লোক পাক বাহিনীতেও আছে বাংলাদেশের সেনাবাহিনীতেও আছে। গোলাগুলি করলে মোটা – চিকন কোন ফ্যাক্টর না।”

রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞানের ছাত্রটা বলল,”হ্যাঁ, তুমি ঠিক কথাই বলেছ।”

আমি বললাম,”তোরা কার মাধ্যমে যুদ্ধে যেতে চাচ্ছিস?”

আমার ক্লাসমেট বলল,”যার মাধ্যমে আমরা যুদ্ধে যেতে চাচ্ছি ওর পরিচয় আমরা জানিনা।”

আমি বললাম,” সেটা ত ঠিক হচ্ছে না। হতেও ত পারে, সে পাক বাহিনীর গুপ্তচর।”

রাষ্ট্রবিজ্ঞানের ছেলেটা বলল,”আসলেই ত। এমনও ত হতে পারে, সে র’এর এজেন্ট।”

আমি বললাম,”র’এর এজেন্ট হলে সমস্যা নাই। সে আমাদেরকে আসল মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের কাছেই নিবে। তা লোকটার পরিচয় কী?”

আমার ক্লাসমেট তখন বলল,”লোকটার পরিচয় জানিনা। তবে লোকটার নাম জামাল ভাই।”

আমি বললাম,”জামালটা আবার কে?”

তখন আমার ক্লাসমেট কলেজের মাঠের দক্ষিণ – পশ্চিম কোণের দিকে আঙ্গুল দিয়ে ইশারা করে একটা লোককে দেখিয়ে বলল,”ঐ যে জামাল ভাই।”(চলবে)©️All Right Reserved by Junayed Ashrafur Rahman
